Hey all, I've been around the PlayStation scene a long long time, probably not as much as some of you guys but I've been around since Dark_Alex meant something more than a nickname, I have never completely went on to become a developer myself, just worked on really small projects, fixes and the like, I've always wanted to learn to code, I want to start with C+, Well anyways, I have wanted a Genuine debugging console since I was 12, kinda weird to ask for that each Christmas since that age, This past sunday I finally found my philosophers stone when I found a working Debugging Station on Craigslist, to my surprise it wasn't any kind of Debugging Station, it was a DECR-1000A Remember those big monstrous-looking Reference Tools?
They're still around, I was very lucky to find it in the state that it is, in the few days I have had it I have really gone crazy with it, It feels really refreshing to finally use the webpage Administrator tool that is found in the leaked manual that was leaked when 1.92 SDK leaked a few years back. Anyone remember that?
Luckily I have found only one problem, the BD Drive wasn't fully working, it stopped working a minute after it started reading a disc, So I opened it up (forgot to take pictures of it opened sorry) and checked to see what drive it had, I found it to be the same drive that CECHA01 has (KEM-400A) I replaced only the laser and put it back together, IT WORKS now, I can now run Disc games at full-pace.
On the internet I haven't found anything regarding CFW for these things, I mean since they are really old, most of them don't even work anymore, and they are kind of rare Since they were officially discontinued in 2009 by SONY so I'm guessing they are not really popular in the scene for Homebrewing.
It came on 3.66 DECR Firmware, I have since upgraded/downgraded it to many different firmwares, including, 2.50, 2.53, 3.55, 3.60, 4.50 & The latest leak 4.60.
I haven't been able to downgrade it further down than 2.50 even though on System Update it says the lowest firmware it can install is 1.00.
I have also found that to run homebrew it has to be on exactly 3.55, I'm guessing it's because of the new keys. I have made NAND + LV1 + LV2 Dumps, sized 496MB, 8MB & 16MB respectively.
Tried to QA Flag, no GameOS app works for it.
Joonie posted a pic on his twitter here: https://twitter.com/joonie86/status/710385895078125568 He apparently got Cobra running on it and has the latest DECR OFW (at the time).
I have some questions for those that are capable of answering them.
Has there been any development on the CFW side for these things? I want those extra 256MB's of RAM to make a difference in the games I put in.
Imagine running a refreshed version of Fallout 3 on this thing. or Skyrim, or any Bethesda game for that matter.
So far I have seen no real difference in performance,I have tested 4 games, those games play the same, same lag, same texture res, still I find that playing them on a DECR gives the games a new-car kind of feeling,
Does anyone know a lasting way to get started on C+? Hopefully with the DECR taking part on my learning. I also have a Jailbroken CECH2500 on DEX Rebug.
Also any tips you can give me to get the most out of it? How to install game updates (not hacks/cheats/mods).
I'd also appreciate leads to the latest OFW or the file itself if possible.
